“To avoid criticism, do nothing, say nothing, and be nothing.”
– Elbert Hubbard
Coaching is a privilege for me; an opportunity to journey with others as they learn, grow, develop, think, see, unlock, decide and thrive.
Here’s a selection of the feedback following sessions with some of the most courageous people I’ve ever met:
“ … the sessions were overall very helpful, with some stand out moments of self-discovery and realisation of points that I need to work on to best utilise my skills. Discussions throughout the coaching have already made an impact on my day-to-day work.”
“ … I have become more confident as a leader, and in giving advice. I deal with issues of poor performance quicker and more swiftly. I am clearer of thought and mind now. I have become more confident in myself, in my ability to address complex situations and as a manager and leader.”
“ … Jason facilitated learning really well – he has a calm way of reflecting key messages and I think this was significant in me becoming aware of the various variables that were impacting my situation. I genuinely cannot think of anything that could have been improved – it was a truly impactful session for me and I would recommend Jason to anyone who is seeking expert coaching.”
Your potential. Realised.
I know this is not a new concept. I’ve read many books and listened to many podcasts that focus on this subject. And yet I’ve seen first-hand how businesses and individuals continue to overlook the importance and proven effectiveness of authentic higher purpose when it comes to their respective performance.
As the Paris Olympics concludes and preparations for the Paralympics to commence on 28th August ramp up, perhaps it’s Olympians who most visibly demonstrate the power of higher purpose. I read an article that showed on average over the last 6-Olympic Games, 24 world records were broken. Whilst the number has been declining since Beijing 2008 the performances continue to impress, enthral and inspire. In Paris: that Men’s 100m final; the GB women’s cycling team breaking records for fun, Duplantis going into orbit, the list goes on …
Technology and science, of course, all contribute to ongoing performance improvements through nutrition, equipment, training regimes, etc ... As does improved funding and sponsorships. My interest here lies outside of all this. My interest in found in what comes from within.
Think of those David vs Goliath moments. Think of that David vs Goliath story: a small shepherd boy victorious in a fight to the death with the ‘Ultimate Warrior’ of his enemy’s army. Think of Leicester City FC winning the Premier League. Think of Usyk downing Fury. Think of Eric Liddell 100 years ago in another Paris Olympics. Higher purpose = higher performance.
And what about the examples in everyday life? What comes to mind for you when consider your own higher purpose? Why do you do what you do? Who or what purpose are you working for? Is it more than just your own personal process to follow?
What about in business? I see examples of businesses achieving B-Corp status and making statements of change in how they will operate; I see individuals positively defying the templated path of career progression through exhibiting deep-rooted values and focus in all they do; and start-up businesses that truly back-up their marketing story with actions outperforming the competition.
Higher purpose is the difference when times get hard, and higher purpose is the difference when things are going well.

Many people ask me about my work as an executive coach; they ask how our working together can add value to their professional growth and performance.
Rest assured, at that point I don’t break out into a rendition of the Kenny Rogers’ classic: The Gambler!
However, and bear with me here (!), when you consider some of the words of this famous song it speaks of knowing yourself and taking responsibility for your actions; both foundational principles of growing in your professional journey. Sometimes in life and business things come your way unexpectedly. How you respond, your next action, is often what determines how the outcome is measured.
Coaching helps move you from chaos to clarity; helps you see the wood for the trees; positively transforms your leadership approach; brings confidence in decision-making and can elevate your performance and results.
The song ends with: ‘I found an ace I could keep …’ A new perspective is found, a tool to help effectively navigate the challenges that inevitably come our way; turning obstacles into motivations.
David, a Director at Turley, expressed his coaching session learnings with me as follows: ‘I particularly appreciated the manner in which Jason challenged me … which allowed me to consider whether my thoughts were founded on mistruths. I have become more confident as a leader … I am clearer of thought and mind. I have become more confident in myself, in my ability to address complex situations as a manager and leader.’
